Cut Your Hair Short So You Can Grow Your Brain Dumb

Lately elementary and high schools and school districts are putting a lot of emphasis on how children look. That’s funny, because I always thought that school was where we go to learn things like reading, history, and math. If I wanted my child to learn fashion, there’s a school for that, but I know that he/she would have to have a grasp of some basics- like math, so that he/she could figure out how much yardage goes into the making of a dress or a suit.

It seems that even some pre-school, and Kindergarten staff were uncomfortable with the way little girls look in a Summer dress with skinny sleeves so they make them change for a tee-shirt.

Girls are more often the target of these ridiculous uniform standards than boys, but not always:

Yes, I actually called the dress codes “ridiculous”. I’m also calling BS on schools and school districts, for the reasoning behind the dress codes. They are saying that a young girl’s skimpy dress will distract her male class-mates.

You don’t touch every art piece in a museum, just because you can SEE it. What makes you think that you have a right to touch or even ogle a mother’s booby, when it’s doing what nature intended it to do?!

I say that the adults are projecting their own discomfort and or distrust of THEMSELVES onto their students, and setting a terrible example by focusing attention on mode of dress, and imposing their puritanical and tyrannical views on those students that they single out for the attention. They’re teaching young male students that they aren’t expected to take responsibility for their behavior, and that they will be allowed to get away with ogling, sexual harassment, and rape. They are teaching girls that a woman’s role, from the time she is born is that of a victim, and that when she is victimized, it is her fault for wearing a too skimpy outfit.

That’s funny, because Nuns and Middle Eastern women in full burkas are raped and harassed just as frequently as American women and tiny babies in onesies.

So tell me again how it’s my nieces’ or my friend’s daughter’s skimpy dress that got her raped, and I’ll make sure you get one of those skimpy dresses, and we’ll see how much fun you can have with it, because from what I understand, most rapists don’t rape the dress. They rape the girl wearing it.

Even in workplaces, where women dress for difficult manual labor, there has always been a need for legal protections against unwanted advances from our employers and co-workers. The groundwork for these laws only started to be laid, in the 60s and only began to have teeth, in the mid 70s.

But I digress……

Younger elementary school children don’t notice how their classmates are dressed unless it’s VERY unusual, or ……..Unless YOU as the “adult” in the room, make a big deal over it.

Children are in class to LEARN.

Part of what they’re supposed to be learning, is:

HOW TO STAY FOCUSED ON THEIR WORK.

If a child’s body shape is bothering YOU- the teacher- because you can see it underneath their clothing, then ……….

YOU are in the wrong job!!

HUMAN BEINGS including children, have bodies.

What makes you think that you have a right to cut off a student’s dread-locks or braids before he wrestles in a tournament. His braids probably meant something to him. Black hair styles have a long and rich history.

Hair is no impediment to wrestling, when it’s tied back, and does not endanger anyone.

If you don’t like dreadlocks, don’t wear them! If they disgust you, put a blanket over your head or better yet…..

the paper bag of shame.

A few last words on rape and sexual harassment:

Researchers have told us that dogs think at a toddler level. My dogs will leave my food alone, if I tell them “No” or “Leave it”. They’ll even leave a treat alone on the floor, if I tell them to. They’ll sit right there, and stare at it for an hour, if I tell them to leave it, for that long.

Strange how school staff, and complete strangers can’t seem to keep their damn eyes and hands to themselves, when they see a Mom nursing her child, or a child being a child in their favorite Spring or Summer dress, when it’s finally warm enough to pack away winter things, for a while.

When you have been a massage therapist, as long as I have, human anatomy ceases to be surprising. All men have the same outboard plumbing as all other men. All women have the same inboard plumbing, and upper body endowments as other women.

I always assumed that all my clients, and people over the age of about 6 or 8 years old knew the difference between the two basic sexes. (I’m not going to discuss alter- gendered people, this time). If you’re reading and fully comprehending this blog post, and you still don’t know which sex gets what plumbing, at birth, then you really need to stop wasting time, in front of your computer and go look at a good anatomy book.

And if you’re getting off on looking at kiddie porn, or getting upset, because one of the toddlers or kindergarteners that you teach is wearing spaghetti straps or a very short skirt, then you need to go register as a sex offender, because YOU’RE A PERVERT AND A PEDOPHILE.

And don’t tell me that skimpy clothes or girls going out to night clubs upset you, when you go by billboards, every hour of every day, and see commercials every 15 minutes, on tv, equating some product with sex appeal, and you make absolutely NO fuss over THAT.

Your discomfort at seeing young children in scanty clothing is either a lie, or a psychological barrier that you put between your conscious mind, and your secret distrust of yourself, when it comes to being around kids or nakedness.

Our bodies aren’t going to change, and they’re not going to go away. We’ve been like this for millions of years.

If you subscribe to the Christian Bible, you know that Adam and Eve were just fine with being around each other’s naked bodies, until that JERK of a serpent mentioned that they should cover up to keep up with the Joneses!

And somehow or other most “primitive” peoples get along just fine, without a lot in the way of clothing, at all, and their men (like my dogs) manage to keep their hands off the women, until they’re invited to do otherwise.

So who’s the real “primitive”?!

I think it’s the adults who are teaching minors that boys can’t be expected to exercise even a modicum of self-control.

If toddlers, dogs and “primitive” peoples can control themselves, then surely civilized Americans must be fully capable of doing, teaching and modeling the same. But we’re not. If we were then the Brock Turners of the world would be the exception to the rule, rather than the norm.
