Dear Future Generations……..I’m sorry.
On behalf of millions of Americans,
I’m sorry for the stain of cruelty and incompetence that will forever taint our reputation in the eyes of the rest of the world.
I’m sorry that there was enough bigotry, and fear in the hearts of those who voted in 2016, to put fascism and incompetence in the highest seat of power in our land.
I’m sorry that their bigotry and fear empowered his greed and that of the entire cabinet of people that he appointed to high positions, where they have made policy that will make your world toxic and unlivable.
That is a fait accompli.
President Obama, had policies in place requiring adherence to strict standards of environmental responsibility, for our factories and other large companies. The tRump administration has rolled them back, in favor of a larger profit margin for the CEOs of those companies.
Dear future generations of Special Needs and LGBTQAI students,
I’m sorry that it was greed and not forethought and caring that put Betsy DeVos in a position where she could degrade the safety and quality of your education.
DeVos’ record gave clear testimony to her distinctive unfitness for the position of Head of the US Department of Education. It marked a lack of experience of public schooling, in her childhood, and she knew little about policies already in place to protect and accommodate you, but her family had supported the campaign of a narcissist who wanted the Oval Office badly enough to take bribes.
(Don’t worry, Conservatives. At least she will insist on Bible Classes. I mean, if you read the Bible and go to Church, you can’t possibly have Special Needs kids or LGBTQAI kids………..Right)?
I’m sorry for the nightmares that are now your waking life because the leader of America’s far right needs an easy way to endear himself to his base.
I’m sorry that those policies have separated you from your families, and stolen your children away from you, even before some were weaned off of the breasts of their mothers.
I’m sorry that the current administration had neither the wisdom nor the decency to take the word of professional psychologists and psychiatrists who told them that to remove your children from you, would scar your children for life, and stunt their mental and emotional growth.
I’m sorry that they did this, planning from the get go to exploit most of your children and sell them to the highest bidding pedophiles and slavers.
Dear Jewish people,
I’m sorry that you now have to relive one of the most shameful pieces of world history, as it repeats itself, here in America.
I’m sorry that we’ve painted over it for so long, that we’ve managed to convince ourselves that it may never even have happened.
Dear Women of America,
I’m sorry that it has taken our government this long to begin to create a semblance of equality in the workplace, and in the courtroom, and that society has regressed to the point that we needed to make our point with “pussy hats”.
I’m sorry that because of the ever present, blind stubbornness and power gluttony, on the part of most of our men in high positions, we still have a gender pay gap, harassment in the workplace, and work productivity levels that fall a good bit below those in other countries.
Dear American Men,
I’m sorry but it has to be said:
Women are just happier in those other countries. They are paid enough to help support their families and feel safe in the workplace, and respected because they get equal pay for equal work, and they don’t get passed up for promotions based on their gender or gender identity.
Dear Black people,
I’m sorry for the necessity of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
I’m sorry that so many police officers have such respect for the monstrosity that is our current administration, and especially its absurd, orange head, that they now treat all Black people as suspects and all Black suspects with unusual cruelty.
Dear Brown people,
I’m sorry that you must now be afraid everywhere, including in your own homes.
I’m sorry that you must fear the stranger that calls your name, on the street, at work, in the hospital, in school, and in the courthouse, because he is undoubtedly an ICE agent. He is surely coming to arrest you, with or without a warrant, and throw you into a cage.
I’m sorry that that cage will be filled beyond legal capacity, and will stink of the long unwashed bodies of other asylum seekers, dying of malnutrition and dehydration.
I’m sorry that you will probably have to sleep sitting up, in a room where the lights are never turned off, and wonder where your children are and if you’ll see them again.
Dear welfare recipients,
I’m sorry for the many foods that will no longer be available to you, using food stamps, because the powers that be saw fit to take them off the list.
Dear children and grandchildren, young and old,
I’m sorry if you lost a parent or grandparent, when their heating assistance was turned off … on tRump’s say-so.
Dear parents and guardians,
I’m sorry if you’ve lost a child, because you couldn’t afford their medications or health care…because tRump sanctioned price hikes.
Dear World Leaders,
I’m sorry that our “leader” has spurned and insulted you, and turned away from the Paris Accords and working trade agreements that we had with your countries, in favor of dealings with more dictatorial world leaders.
I’m sorry that you may now have the false impression that all Americans are short sighted, unreasoning and disrespectful. We aren’t.
I’m sorry that your stocks are falling, and your job security is shaky……….Who am I kidding?! No I’m not!
Dear Republican Congress Members currently under investigation for crimes of treason, aiding and abetting tRump in his felonies and misdemeanors, or crimes of a sexual nature………..,
I’m sorry that you were caught with your pants down.
………….No, actually I’m not.
Dear Alt-Right and those who are still supporting this criminal administration,
I’m sorry that you didn’t research or refused to note the over 4000 lawsuits with tRump’s name on them, before you voted for him.
I’m sorry that you’re low born enough to be fine with the glaring facts of tRump’s 5 draft dodges, 4 infidelities, and OVER A DOZEN accusations of unwelcome advances on women. …….many of whom were under age, at the time.
I’m sorry that you lacked courage and class enough to demand his impeachment, when those crimes, (along with fraud and tax evasions) came to light.
I’m sorry that you accept his scorn of tact and inability to speak intelligibly. I guess I should have expected it, because you were thrilled by his lack of political experience.
Let me know when you hire your plumber to perform a heart transplant for your dying child, yourself or a loved one. I’ll pay you good money to watch that.
I’d be sorry to miss it.
I’m sorry that instead of continuing to do good works in the world, or at least keeping your bigoted opinions to yourselves, you took your “president’s” shameful racism as license to put your own on disgustingly mortifying display of same.
I’m sorry that you’ve forgotten that you are immigrants and children of immigrants, too…unless you are of Native American, Central or South American descent.
I’m sorry that to bolster your own sense of belonging and patriotism, and to re-establish White Supremacy in America, you desperately need to persecute and oppress others.
I’m sorry that in doing so, you let yourself get sucked into the farcical investment of tRump’s geographically impossible and ecologically unsound wall, his weekends in Mar-a-Lago, and his costly “presidential rallies” in the cities where you live.
Not really. I actually couldn’t care less, that you will never see a dime of recompense, without winning a lawsuit for those costs.
That’s on you, for allowing those rallies, in your towns.
After all, you supported him, even after proof was found of his ties to Saudi Arabia and the Russian Oligarchy, and American prisons and immigrant detention centers that were profiting his cabinet members.
I’m not sorry that you fell for his “tax breaks” which only benefited the rich.
I am sorry that you dragged the rest of us in with you, when you willingly jumped, with both feet, into this new era of burgeoning poverty and grief.
Grief for what we lost, when Obama’s second term was over.
Obama wasn’t perfect, but on his watch, there was respect for democracy, and gentility in the White House. There were no slurs against Black Brown or Muslim Congress People, or shouts of “Go Back Home” when they had been born here, and worked hard in order to get where they were, so that they could effect change, for the sake of the American people.
Obama golfed, but spent less on it, in all his 8 years, as president, than tRump has, to date, and tRump’s first term isn’t over, yet.
On Obama’s watch, we were beginning to figure out how to take care of those who needed affordable health care, and free school lunches.
On Obama’s watch, we were coming closer to an era of greater equality for ALL our people, under the law.
On Obama’s watch, there had been sensible environmental policies created. Gun controls had become the norm, as were protections for DREAMERS and women’s rights to autonomy regarding their own bodies and health care.
I DID love America… on Obama’s watch. But as you’ve seen from my previous blog posts, I’ll happily, leave it, now. …along with the rest of California.
Obama never looked at a woman other than his wife.
Dear President Obama and First Family,
I’m sorry that you were as much a target of America’s backwater thinking as any other Black people.
I’m sorry for the constant stream of racist insults and petty attacks, on how you dressed, and where your daughters spent their time, because Americans were fearful of potential retaliation for the centuries of slavery that we inflicted upon your ancestors.
I’m sorry that you now have to watch a very small, senile man, suffering from dementia brought on by Syphilis undo all the things that you accomplished for the good of the US, simply because he was raised to be egotistical, narcissistic, incompetent and hateful.
I’m sorry that he is so egotistical and hateful that in order to feel like a hero, he has to erase the heroic efforts of every one of his predecessors.
I’m sorry that your “president” is so totally focused on erasing and rolling back American progress that he has spent not ONE MOMENT ensuring the success of your students in school or in the workplace, acting to protect your retirement, help Puerto Rico in their time of need, nor to clean up Michigan’s water supply. He has only been a financial liability to American farmers.
Dear American Farmers,
I’m sorry for the millions of dollars worth of your crops that rotted in the fields, the minute that this administration, under tRump, started talking about deportations of immigrants.
Dear American Hospitality Industry,
I’m sorry that you lost billions in tourism dollars, when tRump started talking about travel bans and deportations of immigrants.
Dear Families of American Hospitality Workers and Farmers,
I’m sorry that because of this “America First” attitude and extremism, your parents have begun to have to worry about your next meal, and making the rent, next month and keeping the phones and electricity on, and even whether they will be around to do so, next month or if they will have been arrested, for not being a naturalized citizen, yet.
Dear WOKE American Taxpayers,
I’m sorry that our Electoral College, combined with the Alt-Right and Putin have caused this kleptocracy of a government to flourish.
I’m sorry that they indulge tRump’s excesses and debauchery. I’m sorry that they hang on his every word salad, and lap up his self praise and divisive rhetoric.
I’m sorry that they prefer his funneling money into the pockets of his friends and family members, to his keeping it flowing through the hands of those who would know how to use it to educate our students, care for our sick and house our homeless.
Dear Nancy Pelosi,
I’m sorry that we’ve put you in a nearly impossible position.
I’m sorry that you are used as a flogging boy, when impeachment proceedings are moving too slowly and it’s not your fault.
I’m sorry that you may have to help establish the competence of your “president” to stand trial as an ADULT under the watchful gaze of an entire nation, and indeed THE WORLD.
Dear American Citizens, including First Peoples, Indigenous Tribes, Central and South Americans, Black, Brown and Blended People, Women, Children, LGBTQAI People, Straight People, Minors, Retired People, Parents and Grandparents, Gen Xers and Yers, Baby Boomers, self- employed and otherwise employed………..
I’m sorry, Dear Readers, but it really must be said:
Let’s get to the polls, next time.
Let’s try voting wisely.
Let’s choose someone with some political experience.
Let’s at least LOOK AT campaigners’ tax records, and marriage record.
Let’s vote for someone who has done things to improve their community.
Let’s just agree that lack of class and ability to make a 3 minute speech that doesn’t consist entirely of self- praise, divisive rhetoric, incitement to violence and or bullying, disqualifies a candidate from the running.
Let’s weigh in the balance a candidate’s ability to speak comprehensibly, and without spewing slurs and insults.
Let’s insist that our candidates can back what they say with real facts and figures.
Let’s get dark money out of politics.
Let’s get religion out of politics.
Let’s get common sense curriculum back in the schools, and Common Core OUT.
Let’s start paying our politicians commensurate with their work, and at the same rate as the poorest of our population.
Let’s demand that our politicians abide by the same law and use the same health care we do.
Let’s expect better from our politicians.
Let’s expect them to each help create policy that makes America somehow more successful and sustainable.
Let’s expect them to advance the cause of green energy and the forward progress of science and The Arts.
Let’s reward our politicians, when they deserve it, and make quick work of excusing any who block the path to a well protected environment, successful students, absence of poverty, and a balanced federal budget.
LET’S LEARN FROM OUR HISTORY.
