Jim Crow Never Died
Do we have to start closing down the schools with the highest statistics reflecting suicide rates and trauma to marginalized students?
Maybe we need to do that, and to start putting an end to private schools, so that we have a level educational playing field. If ALL schools were public, then the rich and influential would start putting more money into improving the public schools with the most need of improvement, which would help to level that playing field, and ALL students would get a fair and equitable education. Schools would then have one less reason to play favorites based on gender id, color, or what side of the tracks the students came from.
If you’ve really been aware in the past several decades, (even if you’ve only paid attention to the educational system) you’ll know, as I do, that we never got over our terrible habit of treating others as second class citizens. We started out segregating schools and buses and paying women less than men for the same work, and passing them over when it came time to hand out promotions because “He has a family to support”. We still do that.
We also credit men for many things accomplished by women and for many successful ideas that women generate.
And it’s not just women who are treated like second class citizens, in our country. Black people were brought here as slaves and THEY’RE STILL SLAVES. They’re slaves to the fear that we instill in them and their parents from the time they enter kindergarten and see a friend’s hands zip tied by a police officer…
