My Mother Raised a Lady……..Or Did She?

My Mother raised me to be diplomatic.

To never use harsh words or language not suitable for children.

To respect the opinions of others.

To walk away if things got heated.

To not argue if I disagreed, even if I was sure I knew better.

To cross my legs and bite my tongue while conversations battered at my ears and soul.

If I were still that polite young woman that she raised me to be, I’d tell you that your opinion about the Covid vaccine is as valid as mine and that you have every right to not get the shot.

If I were still that silent young woman, I wouldn’t go to paper with my rage at the impudence, ignorance and arrogance of those who believe that their opinion counts when it comes to my health care.

If I were still that demure young woman, I’d never dream of reminding you of the lessons of history and science that teach us that vaccines work and that once you run roughshod over one Constitutional right, the rest of the Constitution is as meaningless as the right that you’ve overturned.

But I’m not.

I’m not always silent.

I’m not always polite.

I’m not always demure.

And I don’t back down from a fight.

I speak my mind and my words are my own.
