Nevermind My Mid- Life Crisis……!!!

My 53rd birthday was yesterday, on March 7. It was wonderful. Thanks for asking.

In the days leading up to my birthday, I was considering how I might throw myself a mid- life crisis party. It might have been a fun challenge for me since I’ve always been a happy- go- lucky kind’a gal. The thing is that one really doesn’t have to go looking for a crisis. They have always managed to find US.

Take the crisis surrounding the lack of equity in America. …..

I’m not just talking about the impoverished versus the 1%. I’m talking about instances of inequity all through our history. Our history is basically just a timeline of inequities that return to us again and again.

For the purposes of this post, let’s just suppose, for a moment that the American timeline begins with the Suffragette Movement. (1858–1928) Just after the beginning of the Suffragette Movement, the Civil War began, so let’s include that. (April 12, 1861 — April 9, 1865).

It took about four years for our slaves to battle their freedom into law and almost a century for women to get the vote! Until then,

THERE WAS NO EQUITY FOR BLACKS OR WOMEN, RESPECTIVELY.

Sadly, vestiges of those inequities continue to haunt America. Women are still often paid less for doing the same work as their male counterparts. Gerrymandering is a hanger on of a time when Black individuals were considered to be 3/5ths of a person when it came to representing them in
