The Baby and the Bathwater

If you type #Copswillbecops or #Copswillbepowertrippingcops into your FB search, you’ll find a PLETHORA of deplorable cops (like these) doing horrible things. Sadly a lot of people still cling nostalgically to the obsolete, idyllic belief that cops are on our side and that when a cop arrives, he or she will save the day or come to the rescue. I really don’t know if it’s true that good cops are becoming more scarce as time goes on or if we’re simply seeing their true nature, more frequently, thanks to the advent of cell pone cameras. In any case, we need to:

Stop excusing the “bad apples” for the sake of the good ones and START IMPROVING TRAINING AND HIRING PRACTICES and END QUALIFIED IMMUNITY!!

My Mom might see these and other effective measures like it as “Throwing the Baby Out With The Bathwater). Ideas such as “Defunding the Police” make her and others like her afraid because of the implication that such a measure would mean completely DISBANDING PDs.

……That’s NOT what it means.

Defunding the Police would mean that the monies allotted to the PD and Sheriff’s departments would be audited and that illegitimate slush funds of money and property would be redistributed to their rightful owners. The money that is usually, dog eared for PDs and Sheriff’s departments would then begin to flow to resources that better serve the community such that regular citizens will no longer be…
