The Making of a “Good Citizen”
I found this on Facebook, this morning
Ugh… During my sons (sic) virtual social studies class the teacher asked “If you ran a country what is one law you would require of your citizens”. Out of the gate, the first 2nd grader said “I would make it a law that everyone has to love Jesus and we all believe in God”. He rambled on a little longer. But I started saying NO!!! (We were on mute) Informing my son that he just learned the day before about the Bill of Rights and freedom of religion. Man F the parents of these brain washed (sic) kids. It’s hard raising a child with no religion and they hear this crap from their peers.
I can only hope that the teacher had the sense to turn this into a lesson on the Bill of Rights and the freedom of religion that OP (Original Poster) mentioned above. Sadly, I have lost a lot of faith in our educational system, since I had the great good fortune to leave it.
Our educational system is woefully outdated, lacks equitability, is whitewashed and is often completely corrupted and derailed by religious nonsense like Creationism which is too often taught in place of or alongside real science.
I went to a private, Jewish grade school and learned NOTHING about the damage that WWII did to peoples and countries that were not Jewish. I learned NOTHING about the Trails of Tears that devastated the Native American population that was here before Europeans invaded.
