Unplugged

Unplugged usually makes us think of things that don’t work because they’re not getting electricity. Of course it means something entirely different to musicians, and to people who understand its REAL meaning, it’s something completely different from those two.

My family has a place at Tahoe on a beach. There’s a little sign in the kitchen that says something like “RELAX. YOU’RE ON TAHOE TIME”.

What that’s always meant to US, is that we can do things when we FEEL LIKE IT and ignore watches and clocks. We eat when we’re hungry, sleep when we’re tired and play the rest of the time.

Some people call that “being unplugged” and some people call it “living the slow life”. The odd thing is, the number of folk that are always in a big hurry to get to a point in life where they have TIME to live the slow life……

Think about it.

We rush to get to school, every day, as kids partly because school starts by X:XXam on the dot and because parents have to be at work very shortly after that, according to that same clock. We rush to get work done before a deadline set by a boss because we want to be able to rush to pick up our kids on time from school or daycare so that we don’t get charged another hundred dollars or so for the extra time that our kids might spend there if we’re late to pick them up.

We rush into the store to do a quick shopping with our kids on the way home because we want to have dinner on the table in time to rush the kids through quick baths, so that we’ll have
